The Human Family Lecture 4

Migration Our species evolved in East Afica between 300,000 and 200,000 years ago. Most experts do agree that by 150,000 years ago East Africa was populated by homo sapiens that look just like us. Around 70,000 years ago homo sapiens left East Africa and quickly spread though the EuroAsian continents. When Homo Sapiens arrived in the Middle east it was already populated by other human species like Neanderthals and Homo Erectus....

Domesticating fire is another major milestone in the development of the Homo species creating significant advances in our development. The exact date or period when humans first used fire is not known, as it occurred long before recorded history. However, it is generally accepted that humans began using fire between 1.5 and 2 million years ago during the Lower Paleolithic period. The evidence for early human use of fire includes the presence of charred bones and stone tools found at early human sites, as well as the discovery of hearths and ash deposits in caves and other areas where early humans lived....

The Human Family Lecture 2

One characteristic that all human species shared was a large brain. For example, a pig weighing 133 pounds has a brain size of 200 cc. A modern human weighing the same has a brain size of 1200-1400 cc. The brain is not only awkward to carry around, but it requires a lot of food/energy intake. While only weighing about 2% of the total body weight requires 25% of the total food/energy consumed....

The Human Family Lecture 1

In the first section of the Coursea course Dr Harami started with the timeline of everything. About 13 billion years ago was the Big Bang where matter came into being. Physics examines how matter, energy, time, and space interact. About 300,000 years after that matter and energy started combining to form atoms which then formed complex molecules and this becomes Chemistry. About 4 billion years ago even more complex structures started to form call organisms “living” which is Biology....

Brief History Introduction

Brief History is a course that I took taught by Dr. Yuval Noah Harari back around 2013 and since then a book “Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind” was produced and has been translated into several languages. It is about human history from around 70,000 years ago to the 21st Century. As Dr Harami himself says it is both superficial and controversial. The course is divided into 20 segments and even with the book there is no way that it can explore any subject in any detail....
